Shih-Yuan Huang's Award-Winning Family-Friendly Residence

Creating a Safe, Natural, and Grand Space for a Young Family

Shih-Yuan Huang, a renowned designer, has recently been awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award for his innovative residential design project, "Warm Place". This project, located in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, is a testament to Huang's ability to blend safety, comfort, and grandeur into a family-friendly space.

The design inspiration for "Warm Place" was drawn from the clients' desire for a safe and comfortable environment for their young daughter. Huang took this concept and created a space that not only caters to the needs of a child but also exudes a natural and minimalistic grandeur. The design features rounded corners to prevent injuries, dark wood veneer accents, and a layout that allows for free movement.

What sets "Warm Place" apart from other designs is its focus on creating a non-toxic environment for children. The design team has meticulously selected natural and non-toxic materials, such as carbonized corners and environmentally friendly non-toxic lacquer on the veneer. To add a touch of sophistication, a grille was designed above the TV wall to break the monotony of the ceiling.

The realization of this design involved the use of various building materials, including natural wood veneer, eco-friendly non-toxic paint, marble sheet, system cabinet, quartz tile, hexagonal tile, antibacterial recycled laminate, stainless steel, glass, and artificial stone. The living room system's laminate is made of antibacterial recycled laminate, considering that children's hands will touch everywhere, ensuring the health of the client's daughter.

The project, completed in 2021, covers a total interior area of 99.1 square meters, excluding the balcony and toilet. It features three bedrooms, a living room, and a dining room. The design team transformed the couch area into a flexible space that maximizes the outside scenery, making it a favorite spot for the client's husband and their daughter.

Despite the challenges faced, such as hiding the large pillar and the beams on the ceiling, the design team managed to overcome them creatively. They cut the column and made a TV wall with a storage function. They also added a new marble wall to block the view of the kitchen upon entering, solving the Feng-Shui problem and meeting the client's needs.

In conclusion, Shih-Yuan Huang's "Warm Place" is a perfect example of how design can cater to the needs of a family while maintaining a sense of style and grandeur. It is a testament to Huang's innovative approach to design, earning him a well-deserved Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023.
