Kalky Ragged: A Versatile and Innovative Pendant Lamp

Unleashing Creativity Through Flexibility and Handcrafted Design

Inspired by self-developed technology and the material created with it, Marek Błażucki set out to create a pendant lamp that would showcase the possibilities of flexibility and transformation. The result is the Kalky Ragged, a lamp with a seemingly traditional form that can be easily reshaped to suit different preferences.

What sets the Kalky Ragged apart is its innovative use of self-developed technology in the creation of the lampshade. Through manual dyeing, impregnation, sewing, and riveting tracing paper, Błażucki has achieved a remarkable openwork structure that offers a high degree of flexibility. This allows the lampshade to be inverted, completely transforming the lamp's appearance.

Reversing the lampshade is a simple process that involves repositioning the mounting of the light source holder. In just 10 seconds, users can choose their preferred shape and create a new ambiance in their space. The hand-torn edge of the lampshade components adds a touch of artistic flair, creating a beautiful contrast with the straight cut.

Measuring 60 x 60 x 30 cm without the cable and 60 x 60 x 150 cm with the cable, the Kalky Ragged pendant lamp is a statement piece that can enhance any interior. Its ability to adapt to different shapes and moods makes it a versatile lighting solution for various settings.

The Kalky Ragged project was initiated in February 2022 and was specifically created for the exhibition Nie!Pokoj, which aimed to promote peace in Ukraine. The lamp was showcased at the Academic Center of Design in Łódź from March 8th to May 31st, 2022, before being included in the Bozzetti collection.

One of the main challenges in creating the Kalky Ragged was effectively conveying emotions through the product. Błażucki successfully achieved this by incorporating the hand-torn edge treatment, resulting in a visually appealing object that resonates with viewers.

The Kalky Ragged pendant lamp has been recognized for its exceptional design and functionality. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Lighting Products and Fixtures category in 2023. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the lamp's well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities.
