Jung-Te Lin's inspiration for Champion Living stemmed from the idea that tiles are not just rigid squares or rectangles, but essential components of a space's ambiance. The showroom, located on the first and second floors of a commercial building, is designed to elevate clients' experiences. The concept revolves around a "performing stage" and lab studio, where tiles are the main characters, creating an experience beyond tiles. This space, Champion Lab, serves as a studio for designers to play, mix, and match different possibilities.
Champion Living stands out due to its unique properties. With the evolution of technology, tiles have evolved into recyclable and environmentally-friendly building materials. Their application now exceeds traditional impressions, and technological breakthroughs have opened up diverse possibilities and opportunities to add value to buildings. The showroom is organized in a library style, with tile panels arranged by sizes, patterns, and textures in a soft natural oak color scheme. This arrangement allows users to effortlessly locate their needs.
The design realization of Champion Living is equally impressive. QR coded tile samples are organized in warm and cool tones for users to quickly spot their preferences with complete information to explore. Clean light and lines in this natural oak space allow users to focus directly on material selection. The showroom is planned in a hotel ambiance, composed of four sections: Champion Lounge, Champion Living, Marcobelli Living on Level One, and Champion Lab on Level Two.
Champion Living is not just a tile showroom but a venue of tile and material solution in the form of an art and lifestyle gallery. It represents a new image for the 50-year 'young' leader of the industry. The project is a cost-efficient solution for old building regeneration and a flip of the brand image through the image of a gallery. The majority of the building materials are sourced in Taiwan, including Champion local production recyclable tiles, an actual input reducing carbon emission.
The design faced several challenges, such as re-positioning the brand through the image of a gallery. The idea was to create an inspiration of hotel residence, reception lounge, and commercial window displays, all done through tiles’ flexible character of both being an elegant subtle background and ‘character with a voice’. Champion Living and Marcobelli Living, two different show flats represent distinct brand personalities and lifestyles. Unlike traditional tile showrooms, Champion Living is a place for users to experience beyond tiles, where imagination can be realized through materials.
Champion Living has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
