According to statistics, there are approximately 1.1 million children and adolescents worldwide suffering from type 1 diabetes. However, none of the insulin injection products currently on the market have the function of positioning and remembering the injection location. This poses a significant challenge for young patients who rely on their memory to inject insulin, often leading to health and safety issues.
Easysulin, designed by Lin Zhong-Wei, aims to address this problem by providing a user-friendly solution for children with diabetes. The pen features a unique tape measure system that allows for precise positioning of the injection site. By aligning the time icons on the pen with the corresponding week on the tape measure, children can easily remember and track their injection locations.
The triangular pen body divides the morning, noon, and evening injection angles into an average of 120 degrees. This intuitive design enables users to point the current time icon upwards, position the tape measure on the umbilicus, and pull it out to the icon of the week day. This ensures a stable distance interval both horizontally and vertically, preventing repetitive injections at the same site.
Easysulin is compatible with insulin cartridges available on the market. Users can simply insert the cartridge into the pen, adjust the dose using the rotating knob, and inject. After the injection, the cartridge can be easily removed for future use. With dimensions of 3cm x 2.5cm x 15cm, Easysulin is compact and portable, making it convenient for children to carry and use.
The development and design of Easysulin began in March 2022 and concluded with product testing in January 2023 in Taiwan. Throughout the design process, the team conducted extensive research, including interviews with healthcare professionals and patients. The goal was to create a safer and more convenient insulin injection pen that would meet the specific needs of children with diabetes.
Easysulin has received recognition for its innovative design and practicality. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Idea and Conceptual Design category in 2023. This prestigious award acknowledges the pen's well-designed, practical, and innovative features that meet professional and industrial requirements.
Easysulin is set to revolutionize insulin injections for young patients, providing them with a user-friendly and effective tool to manage their diabetes. With its unique tape measure system and intuitive design, Easysulin offers a safer and more convenient way for children to administer insulin, ensuring better health outcomes and improved quality of life.
