Seismic Mobile: Revolutionizing Security with Seismic Sensor Technology

Designer Oguzhan Topcuoglu's Award-Winning Mobile App for Instant Security Services

The inspiration behind Seismic Mobile stemmed from the desire to modernize security services. Topcuoglu envisioned a mobile app as a replacement for the traditional hand terminal, enhancing user mobility and response time. The design draws on elements of computer games for the radar and alarm pages, creating an engaging and enjoyable interaction for users.

Seismic Mobile stands out for its unique properties. The system comprises sensors, modems, and a mobile app that allows users to control the entire system, from sensor setup to radar and notification checks. What sets the app apart is its specialized, user-friendly functions, which make it accessible to users regardless of their technical expertise.

The realization of Seismic Mobile involved the use of various technologies. The hardware package includes 12 ground-embedded seismic sensors wirelessly connected to a master modem, or gateway. The mobile app communicates with the system via Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, and NFC technologies. The UX-UI interaction and the prototype of the app were designed using Figma Software.

The app is responsive for all screen sizes and is compatible with both Android and iOS phones. It is divided into four main submenus for each function: Notifications, Radar system, Sensor list, and Settings. The use of red, yellow, blue, and gray colors on a dark background ensures clear communication of messages.

The design process, which took place between 2021 and 2022 in Ankara, Turkey, involved extensive user research, literature review, and field studies. The aim was to keep the interface as simple as possible, with familiar experiences based on users' daily app habits. Overcoming the challenge of controlling all the technical equipment wirelessly via a mobile app according to daily life habits was a significant achievement for the project.

Seismic Mobile has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Mobile Technologies, Applications, and Software Design Award in 2023. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and that introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
