Orizzonte 01: The Zip Around Wallet that Carries the Scenery with You

Hideyuki Kishihara, the designer behind Orizzonte 01, found inspiration for this design during a fishing trip before dawn. As he observed the blue hour landscape, he noticed that the scale pattern on the fish leather resembled ocean waves. This sparked the idea of creating a leather item that represents the sea with fish leather and the sky with gradient leather.

The concept behind Orizzonte 01 is to "carry the scenery with you." The fish leather used in the design represents the waves of the sea, while the gradient leather represents the changing colors of the sky. The color variations, named "L'ora blu (Blue Hour)," "L'ora magica (Magic Hour)," and "Il notturno (Night Scene)," depict the sea and sky of each hour using fish leather and gradient leather.

The unique properties of Orizzonte 01 lie in its use of discarded fish skin as fish leather, reducing waste and adding an interesting texture to the product. The wallet is made from fish leather, specifically the skin of sea bream, and gradient leather dyed in layers of color using dyes. The edges are beautifully finished with high strength using a Leather Edge Creaser.

Measuring W190×H90×D20mm, Orizzonte 01 features a carefully designed interior. The height of the coin purse space inside is adjusted to prevent it from moving into the banknote compartment when the zipper is closed. The wallet also boasts top-quality zippers for smooth opening and closing.

The design process for Orizzonte 01 began in November 2021, with samples completed in December 2022. Pre-orders for this exceptional zip around wallet started in February 2023.

Orizzonte 01 not only showcases innovative design but also contributes to environmental sustainability. By utilizing fish skin as fish leather, which would otherwise be discarded, the design reduces the burden on the environment. Furthermore, the design incorporates the fish scale pattern, adding a unique touch to the product.

One of the creative challenges faced during the development of Orizzonte 01 was achieving a beautiful gradation. Through continuous research and sample-making, the designer was able to create a gradation leather that met their satisfaction.

Orizzonte 01 was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Fashion and Travel Accessories Design category in 2023.
