Zhubo Design's Windy Pavilion, nestled amidst mountains with a lake below, is a testament to the power of nature-inspired architecture. The design draws its inspiration from the sea waves blown by the wind, abstractly solidified into continuous mountains. The Windy Pavilion is a purposely cut frozen fragment, offering a purposely cut landscape view from the inside. It serves as a container for viewing, a continuous space, providing shelter for people's body, spirit, and vision.
Unlike traditional service-oriented buildings, the Windy Pavilion offers an open space where leisure or business activities can occur naturally. It is a functional viewing space equipped with a snack bar, a beverage table, a bathroom, and a rest step. The landscape seen from the inside of the "Mountain Sea Wind Hall" is a deliberately cut landscape. It is a container for viewing and a continuous space, providing shelter for people's body, spirit, and vision.
The Windy Pavilion adopts a concrete shell structure, with a shell thickness of 200 mm, and a gradual thickness of 200-500 mm used locally. The project is an irregular curved structure, different from the conventional shell structure, and is between the flat plate and the arch shell. Three tree-shaped steel columns are added in the area with a large overhang and span height, adding a second line of defense for the stability of the overall structure.
The project, which started in 2020 and finished in 2022, is located in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, China. The design team, led by Feng Guochuan and Xiao Yebao, faced the challenge of integrating the rich landscape resources around the site into the building, making it a beautiful viewing container, providing people with a rest space, and also making itself a landscape.
The Windy Pavilion is not just a building, but a human landscape with beautiful curves. It has been recognized for its outstanding expertise and innovation, earning the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2023. This accolade is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill.
