Oil Street Art Space

Visual Identity

The Oil project aims to develop a visual identity that reflects the brand's core ideas.

The 'Oi!' project, designed by Kimhung Choi and Thomas Siu, is a visual identity that captures the essence of the Oil Street Art Space. The name itself replaces the 'L' with an exclamation mark, serving as a call for people's attention and a visual representation of the project's location. The logo's shape is designed to illustrate the idea of calling out loud for attention in graphic form. The use of green as the identity color suggests that 'Oi!' is an oasis for the arts in the midst of the urban jungle of concrete and steel.

“Oi!”- Oil Street Art Space is housed in the former clubhouse of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. It opens to the public as a community leisure and cultural space in two phases after revitalization and restoration. The space includes a red-bricked Grade II historic building with a tile roof and over 3000 sqm outdoor area with a two-storey building incorporating an exhibition and multipurpose venue respectively. This unique property sets 'Oi!' apart from other art spaces, providing a distinctive and memorable experience for visitors.

The visual identity of 'Oi!' is realized through various applications on environmental graphics and collateral. These applications provide guidance to visitors to explore all parts of 'Oi!' and enhance the impression of the space to the public. From buntings to pinned badges, the visual identity is incorporated into different dimensions, ensuring a cohesive and recognizable brand.

The visual identity conveys a welcoming and unifying ambiance to all visitors, delivering the message that 'Oi!' is a platform where people can realize their dreams in art and ignite their creative spark. It aims to create a distinctive and memorable brand that captures the essence of the project.

The Oil Street Art Space project was completed in May 2022 in The Hong Kong SAR. Extensive research was conducted, particularly regarding the transformation of historical premises into public usage and old architecture revamp projects. The client and designers aimed to portray the brand image with 'Oi!'s vision and mission, making art relevant in the community. The chosen visual identity, with the name as the core element in the logo, helps the audience remember the location of 'Oi!' and reinforces its brand identity.
