Starfish Collection: A Dive into the Depths of Fine Jewelry Design

Designer Pavit Gujral's award-winning collection inspired by marine life

Designer Pavit Gujral's inspiration for the Starfish Collection stemmed from her scuba diving experiences in the Andaman. The starfish, a marine creature of infinite variety and a symbol of divine love, caught her attention. Each piece in the collection is a testament to the starfish's unique characteristics of intuition, brilliance, vigilance, and inspiration.

The Starfish Collection stands out for its intricate design and meticulous craftsmanship. Over 4000 pieces of stones, including Orange Sapphires, Pink Sapphires, Rubies, Tsavorite Garnets, accentuated by round brilliant Diamonds and Tahitian Pearls, are set in 18K Gold. The collection's unique marine touch is further enhanced by the shell-shaped clasps of the necklace and bracelet.

The creation of the Starfish Collection involved a detailed process. It began with a sketch, followed by the preparation of a CAD drawing to finalize the shape and technicalities. The piece was then cast into 18K Gold, and the stone setting process began. The final steps involved handcrafting, polishing, and fitting for the perfect look.

The collection includes a necklace, bracelet, and earrings, each with specific dimensions. The necklace measures 480mm x 60mm x 10mm, the bracelet 180mm x 60mm x 10mm, and the earrings 60mm x 50mm x 10mm. The pieces are easy to wear, with a concealed button on the shell-shaped clasp for opening and closing.

The design process started in February 2022 in Chandigarh, India, after Gujral's inspirational trip to the Andamans Island in December 2021. The production began in March 2022 in Jaipur, India, and was completed in July 2022. The design project involved extensive research and understanding of the starfish's anatomy and movement, ensuring the pieces did not look animated.

The Starfish Collection faced several challenges, including capturing the essence of the starfish's beauty and selecting the perfect color combinations for the stones. The design and welding of the shell-shaped clasp and the starfish onto another also posed significant challenges, which were overcome with flawless manufacturing techniques. The collection's unique and bold design earned it the Silver A' Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design Award in 2023, a testament to its remarkable level of excellence and innovation.
