Romance of Arc: A Unique Residential Design by Tai Kuan Huang

An Innovative Approach to Interior Design

With a total area of 889.6 sq.ft, the Romance of Arc house is a testament to the power of carefully calculated arcs in space. An arc, as a plane curve, can take on various postures and shapes, presenting a generous, orderly, and full appearance. The design team, led by Tai Kuan Huang, has skillfully utilized arcs to create a sense of romance and elegance in the residential space.

One of the key strengths of this design lies in its use of materials. The house owners desired a simple and warm atmosphere, and the design team delivered by incorporating various materials that evoke a natural and cozy feeling. Warm colors set the tone, while visual and tactile textures add depth and character to the space. From the special wall paint that changes under natural light to the natural bamboo rattan used in the entryway shoe cabinet, every detail has been carefully considered to enhance the overall ambiance.

The design specifications of the Romance of Arc house are 889.6 sq.ft, providing ample space for comfortable living. The open kitchen serves as the heart of the home, seamlessly connecting the living room, dining room, and entryway. The kitchen island, measuring 300 cm in length, acts as a versatile space for cooking, dining, and socializing, creating wonderful interactions in daily life.

Throughout the design, arcs are used to connect different areas of the house. The living room features a divided background wall with laminated umber and live edges, providing storage and expanding the spatial vision. The dining room, located within the largest frame of the background wall, is furnished with a walnut solid wood dining table and a combination of couches and booth sofas, creating a leisurely cafe-like atmosphere.

In the private space, the original two bedrooms were transformed into a bedroom and a dressing room. The doors between these spaces offer a seamless layout, while the arc arch connecting the bedroom and dressing room echoes the design concept. Arcs are also incorporated in the doors leading to the master room, with semi-section arc glass partitions allowing natural light to flow into the corridor.

The Romance of Arc project was completed in July 2022 in TaoYuan City, Taiwan. The design team took inspiration from the owner's love for travel, integrating elements seen during their journeys into the decorations. The result is a unique and personalized space that reflects the owner's tastes and experiences.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award celebrates designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
