The concept of magic and divination has fascinated humanity for millennia, a sentiment captured by designer Alexey Danilin in the Spirito table lamp. Drawing inspiration from the spiritualistic rituals and the enigmatic crystal balls used by the Druids, Danilin has resurrected these ancient motifs through a contemporary lens. The lamp's design pays homage to the spiritualism movement and the works of Allan Kardek, infusing a sense of the otherworldly into everyday spaces.
What sets Spirito apart is its ethereal presence, reminiscent of a levitating orb of light. The lamp's silhouette, a nod to the classic table lamp, is reimagined to mimic a magical sphere. By harnessing the power of LED technology and precise lighting calculations, Spirito casts a celestial glow upwards, transforming ceilings into canvases of light. The gradient staining of the glass further enhances this effect, creating an aura that is both mystical and modern.
The creation of Spirito is a testament to the ingenuity of design and engineering. Utilizing reprinted light, the lamp achieves an illusion of weightlessness without the need for visible wires or supports. The glass elements of Spirito are ingeniously assembled in a matryoshka-like fashion, ensuring structural integrity while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. This design choice not only eliminates visual clutter but also reinforces the lamp's magical quality.
Measuring 420 mm in height and 260 mm in diameter, Spirito is a harmonious blend of glass and metal, powered by a warm LED light at 3000K. The collaborative efforts of lead designer Alexey Danilin, engineer Nikita Morozov, product manager Elena Slivka, and assistant product manager Anastasia Orlova have culminated in a product that is both functional and enchanting. The lamp's operation is as simple as its design is complex, offering a user experience that is intuitive and transformative.
The journey of Spirito, from conception to realization, spanned from April to August 2023 in Moscow. It made its debut at Interlight Russia 2023, captivating audiences with its innovative design. The research behind Spirito delved into the rich tapestry of mysticism, from the ancient Celts to the spiritualism of the 19th and early 20th centuries, culminating in a design that is as much a piece of art as it is a source of light.
Overcoming the challenge of embodying a magical levitating object, Spirito has earned its place as a Platinum winner in the A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2024. This prestigious accolade is a recognition of Danilin's vision, which has not only pushed the boundaries of design but also provided a luminary experience that harks back to the enigmatic allure of the past while firmly rooted in the present.
