Modelhane: Where Artistry Meets Precision in Office Design

Podna Architects' Modelhane Blends Workshop Utility with Gallery Aesthetics

Discover how Podna Architects' innovative design transforms a utilitarian space into an artful experience, merging the functionality of a handbag production workshop with the sophistication of an art gallery.

The concept behind Modelhane by Podna Architects transcends traditional office design, aiming to infuse the practicality of a production workshop with the elegance of an art gallery. This unique approach to an office interior not only serves its purpose but also elevates the product—the handbag—to an art form. The use of light colors and minimal partitions creates an open, airy atmosphere, where the vibrancy of the bags takes center stage against a serene backdrop.

Modelhane's standout feature is its seamless integration of space, allowing for an uninterrupted flow of creativity and production. The design employs minimalistic elements and transparent materials to maintain a connection between different functional areas. Bricks with varying geometries serve as subtle separators, providing a sense of division without creating barriers, thus fostering a cohesive workspace that encourages interaction and visibility.

The project's realization leaned heavily on the existing structural elements of the space, such as the waffle ceiling and glass facade. Podna Architects chose to embrace these features, enhancing the interior with materials that complement the rawness of concrete and the transparency of glass. This choice reflects a commitment to minimalist and permeable design principles, which are evident throughout the office.

Technical specifications such as sphere pendants and specially sized bricks contribute to the overall aesthetic, ensuring that every detail aligns with the design's ethos. These elements not only serve a functional purpose but also add to the visual harmony of the space, reinforcing the gallery-like ambiance.

Modelhane's design encourages interaction and flow, with a layout that naturally guides one through the journey of handbag production. From the meeting room with its display area to the cutting room, each space is carefully crafted to support the narrative of creation. The semi-permeable materials used for separation allow for a silhouette effect, subtly delineating areas while maintaining a connection to the whole.

Completed within a span of just three months in Istanbul, Modelhane stands as a testament to Podna Architects' ability to deliver innovative and impactful design solutions. The office is not just a place of work; it is a journey through the lifecycle of a product, culminating in a gallery that celebrates the handbag as a piece of art. This harmonious blend of art and utility has earned Modelhane the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2024, a recognition of its exceptional design and creative excellence.
