Metaphors of Life

Residential Apartment by Chao Chien Huang

The views outside of the large and wide window correspond to the bright cleanness of the indoor, while the natural light projected to the indoor space blurs the existing border between the outdoor and the indoor as if swinging between virtual and reality; the spaces inside the house overlaps and varies due to the projected lights and shadows, such that one may feel the traces of time, allowing space and heart to stop here and take a small break.

Chao Chien Huang's residential apartment design, named "Metaphors of Life," offers a unique perspective on modern urban living. The design takes inspiration from the seamless integration of indoor and outdoor spaces, blurring the boundaries between virtual and reality. The large windows provide expansive views and allow natural light to flood the interior, creating a bright and clean atmosphere. The play of light and shadows adds depth and dimension to the space, evoking a sense of time passing by.

One of the standout features of this design is its ability to maximize the use of limited living space. By extending the spirit of the space, the existing area feels expanded and open. The layout of the apartment was carefully planned to ensure a seamless flow between rooms. The lounge and study are positioned on the same axis, creating a continuous space with an open field of vision.

The public areas of the apartment, including the lounge, dining room, and study, are designed with a dark color palette, enhancing the modern urban style. The large French windows amplify the visual effect, bringing the urban scenery inside and providing an unobstructed view of the surroundings.

With a total area of 198.348 square meters, this residential apartment offers a comfortable and elegant living space. The design incorporates cultural art and philosophy, layering meaning and depth into every detail. The young modern and dignified conservative paint strokes add a touch of modernity and create a unique ambiance of cozy elegance.

Chao Chien Huang's "Metaphors of Life" design project successfully combines two houses into one, rethinking the layout and spatial planning to ensure a harmonious integration. The television wall acts as a visual separator between the foyer and the dining room, connecting the different areas while maintaining their independence.

The project was completed in October 2019 in Taichung, Taiwan. The design showcases the designer's meticulous research and attention to detail. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2020, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities that meet professional and industrial requirements. This design stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and contributing to a better world.
