Preserving Tiong Bahru's History in a Boutique Hotel

Hotel Nostalgia, designed by White Corporate, is a unique project that aims to preserve and highlight the history of Tiong Bahru, one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore. The hotel is a blend of two themes - "Lush" and "Colonial" - that pay homage to the district's opulent past and colonial heritage.

The interior design of Hotel Nostalgia is a testament to the rich history of Tiong Bahru. The lobby, in-house al-fresco restaurant, and lounge bar are adorned with bespoke baroque sofas, rococo individual seating, and elaborate solid wood and marble top foyer tables. Spanish and Italian black and white marble floor tiles reflect the colonial style, while an Egyptian crystal chandelier hanging from a gold pebble surface ceiling dome creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Despite the limited outdoor space, Hotel Nostalgia features a glass-sided lap pool on the 3rd level and a terrace bar, offering a peaceful seating area with contemporary outdoor rattan furniture and a picturesque view of the surroundings.

The challenge of designing the interior for the 50 guest rooms was overcome through careful space planning. The rooms are furnished with quality linens, classic Jacquard weave embroideries, and vibrant textured silk fabrics on premium beds. Oriental-inspired artworks, photograph prints of Old Tiong Bahru, neo-classical mirrors, and colonial-style wall sconce lights add a touch of elegance and nostalgia to each room.

Hotel Nostalgia has positioned itself in a class of its own, becoming Tiong Bahru's best reason to visit and experience the district's old-world wonders. By combining the Lush and Colonial themes, White Corporate has successfully created a boutique hotel that not only offers a luxurious stay but also serves as a reminder of Singapore's rich history.

Hotel Nostalgia was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2013. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The hotel's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contribute to a better world, making it a deserving recipient of this accolade.
