With the aim of infusing joy and whimsy into everyday objects, Priyam Doshi's Mushroom floor lamps stand as a testament to the beauty and diversity of natural forms. Inspired by the simple elegance of mushrooms, these lamps are not just functional items but also serve as captivating art pieces that add a touch of magic to any living space. The lamps' unique properties lie in their handcrafted quality and the fusion of dual-colored fabrics, a departure from the monotony of single-hued lampshades.
The Mushroom lamps are a product of meticulous hand fabrication and stitching by skilled women artisans. The metal armature, powder-coated for longevity, forms the sturdy skeleton of the lamp, while the fabric, carefully chosen and combined in two colors, drapes over it to create an organic, mushroom-like silhouette. This design breaks away from conventional lamp forms, offering a sculptural quality that is both innovative and aesthetically pleasing.
Functionality meets artistry in the realization of these lamps. The LED lighting within casts a warm glow, available in 20 or 40 watts, ensuring that the lamps are not only beautiful but also practical. The ease of operation is enhanced by a foot switch, allowing users to activate the light without bending down, and the LED light source can be replaced without tools, ensuring convenience and longevity.
The Mushroom Lamp collection, available in large and small sizes, was brought to life within the bustling city of Mumbai, India. The project, from inception to exhibition at the Raw Collaborative Exhibition's 5th Edition, spanned the month of November 2022. The research behind the lamps revealed a gap in the market for nature-inspired, fabric-made floor lamps, which Priyam Doshi's design has successfully filled.
Overcoming creative and technical challenges, the design team perfected the mushroom form to prevent fabric sagging and ensure seamless assembly. The internal LED light source was strategically placed to provide even illumination throughout the lamp's structure. The Mushroom lamps, with their dual-colored fabric and handcrafted quality, stand as a testament to the power of design to transform everyday objects into sources of light and joy.
The lamps' acclaim is well-deserved, as they represent a harmonious blend of practicality and aesthetics, a hallmark of Priyam Doshi's design philosophy. The Iron A' Design Award is a recognition of the lamps' ability to meet professional and industrial standards while providing a sense of fulfillment and contributing to a better world through design.
