The "Get Your Feet Off My Coffee Table!" is a coffee table designed by James Cornetet with the intention of preventing people from using furniture in a manner that it was not designed for. This innovative design aims to maintain the pristine image of the table while concealing necessary clutter.
The table features vertical ribs that create two table tops. The surface between the ribs supports smaller everyday objects such as keys, cups, remote controls, and cell phones, effectively shielding them from view. On the other hand, the upper surface formed by the vertical ribs accommodates larger objects like books and laptops. This play of figure and ground not only preserves the appearance of the table as a uniform object but also visually obscures any potential clutter.
One of the unique properties of this design is its use of Corian, a material that allows the table to be stain and vandal-resistant. Additionally, any deep abrasions or scars can be easily repaired, ensuring the longevity of the table's pristine appearance.
The "Get Your Feet Off My Coffee Table!" is manufactured using CNC router technology specifically designed for manufacturing Corian counter tops. The table is made up of two modular components, allowing for variations in length without altering the assembly process. The simple form of the table, combined with the precision of CNC fabrication equipment, results in a prototype with extreme accuracy and crisp details.
With dimensions of 48" in length, 26" in width, and 18" in height, this coffee table is not only aesthetically pleasing but also uncomfortable for guests to rest their feet on. The dimensions of the vertical ribs have been intentionally designed to discourage such behavior, eliminating the need for any awkward requests to "get your feet off my coffee table!"
The "Get Your Feet Off My Coffee Table!" was developed between November 2010 and January 2011. This unique design has received recognition in the form of the Iron A' Design Award in 2011. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The "Get Your Feet Off My Coffee Table!" stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
