Vortex: A Unique Washbasin Design

Efficiency, Aesthetics, and Innovation Combined

The vortex washbasin is a metaphorical representation of drain and water flow, visually indicating the entire object as a functioning washbasin. This innovative design aims to decrease water consumption for cleaning by guiding the water in a spiral path, allowing the same amount of water to cover more ground.

The unique properties of the vortex washbasin lie in its form and functionality. The vortex shape, inspired by fluid behavior, not only enhances the efficiency of water flow but also adds a visually striking element to any bathroom. The complementary tap, designed to visually belong to the washbasin, complements the concept while maintaining its own character.

Constructed using high-performance ceramic, the washbasin is die-casted and glazed with a slick nonstick glaze. This material and production technology ensure that water forms large droplets, effectively sweeping away grime. The tap, made from brass, is gravity casted, mechanically polished, and chrome plated. It features an electronic touch panel for easy control of water pressure and temperature.

The tap's sleek, glossy-black touch panel allows users to control water flow with a simple touch. The icons on the control panel smoothly appear one by one, following the direction of the flow, providing an intuitive and visually appealing user experience. The tap's design and functionality perfectly complement the vortex washbasin, creating a cohesive and efficient bathroom fixture.

Deniz Karasahin faced several challenges during the design process, particularly in creating a tap that visually belonged to the washbasin while maintaining its own unique character. Additionally, considerations such as the angle of the tap to prevent water spillage and the proportional relationship between the washbasin and tap were carefully addressed to ensure seamless functionality.

The vortex washbasin has received recognition for its outstanding design and innovation. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2012. This prestigious award is given to designs that showcase exceptional expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, evoking positive emotions and wonder.
