Lemma Lah: A Contemporary Seating Inspired by Arabic Script

This contemporary seating, called 'Lemma Lah', is a testament to the power of Arabic culture and its influence on design. Designed by Rania M Hamed, this seating area draws inspiration from the very basic form of Arabic script, specifically Kofi writing. The art of 'khat', or the written script, is a fundamental trait of Arabic culture that elevates every living experience.

The design of Lemma Lah uses the strokes of the Kofi letters and script to configure and define the seating. These strokes, borrowed from geometric ornamentation, break at right angles and squeeze themselves against each other, creating a dynamic movement that keeps the space alive. The exaggerated size of some strokes has been transformed into pieces of furniture, while the script itself forms an innovative layout that encourages social interaction.

Written in Kofi script, the words "lemma Lah" (why not) flow through the space with their intimate proportions and sinuous curves. This design challenges the status quo and asks the question, why not? It embodies the spirit of innovation and the willingness to dream beyond what is currently known.

As George Bernard Shaw once said, "Some men see things as they are and say why... I dream things that never were and say why not." Lemma Lah embodies this sentiment, pushing the boundaries of design and inviting us to explore new possibilities.

This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, showcasing remarkable technical characteristics and artistic skill. The design of Lemma Lah introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder, making it a truly remarkable piece of furniture.
