LOTUS: A Blossoming Innovation in Bathroom Design

Tolga BERKAY's Award-Winning Bathroom Set Inspired by Nature's Elegance

LOTUS, a bathroom set designed by Tolga BERKAY, takes inspiration from the Lotus flower, known for its unique water and dirt repelling properties. The design, which won the Platinum A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2012, is a testament to the harmonious blend of nature and technology.

The LOTUS bathroom set stands out for its elegance and functionality. BERKAY's design imitates the Lotus flower rising from water, with a special coating applied to the surface of the set to replicate the flower's water and dirt repelling properties. This unique feature sets the LOTUS apart from other bathroom sets, making it not only aesthetically pleasing but also practical and easy to maintain.

The LOTUS set comprises ceramic sanitaryware including a wash basin, pedestal, WC pan, and cistern made of vitreous china or fine fire clay, as well as an acrylic bathtub. The design team worked closely with relevant departments throughout the design stage to ensure seamless production and assembly. The result is a set of free-standing objects with peculiar shapes, requiring intensive research to develop production methods, assembly parts, and auxiliary parts.

The design specifications of the LOTUS set are carefully considered to ensure comfort and usability. The monoblock basin, for example, has a small surface area and no connection to the wall, requiring a special assembly part to connect it to the floor. The close couple, a combination of a WC pan and monoblock cistern, features a flat seat area with a wavy appearance that overlaps the WC pan top surface, creating an image as if they are one piece.

The bathtub, similar in appearance to the basin, has been designed with ergonomic features in mind. The outer part hides the joining parts and the foot part without sacrificing the overall appearance of the family. The design of the LOTUS set is a reflection of the Lotus flower, as Zhou Dunyi, a teacher of Confucius's philosophy, said, "I like the Lotus flower since it grows in the mud and never gets dirty."

The LOTUS bathroom set, designed by Tolga BERKAY, was awarded the Platinum A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2012. This prestigious award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing. The LOTUS set, with its unique design and functionality, truly embodies these qualities.
