Anugerah Industri Muzik 2012: A Colorful Celebration of Music

Designing a Stage that Shines with the Spirit of Music

The concept behind the stage design is to represent the movement and energy of the music industry over the years. The main feature of the design is the metal arch curve, which is adorned with a variety of colorful songs. This unique element symbolizes the diversity and evolution of music.

To bring this design to life, a total of 300 custom-made LED panels were used. These panels, measuring 600mm x 400mm and weighing 12mm, were attached to a flying arch curve truss. The centerpiece of the stage is a 20' L main screen, which displays the main program, VT playback, and nominations. Additionally, 32 42" plasma screens with individual systems were strategically placed throughout the stage.

The stage itself is 4 feet high and covered with a silver carpet topped with LED strips. The island stage, also 4 feet high, features ramps and staircases. The main arch stands at 30 feet in height, while the corner arches reach 12 feet. These arches are adorned with LED strips and silver glittery crystals, creating a mesmerizing atmosphere for the hosts and contestants.

The design ensures that all attention is focused on the contestants and winners, who stand on the raised center stage and island. The silver color scheme enhances their colorful costumes and adds an air of mystery to their performances.

The construction of the stage took several days, starting with light rigging and floor marking. Set rigging and construction followed, along with LED panel rigging. Technical rigging and light focus were completed on the fifth day, and a full dress rehearsal took place on the sixth day. The red carpet area was set up, and finally, the live show event took place on the seventh day.

Rafidah Othman's design was inspired by the observation of rainbows and the vibrant colors they bring to life. By incorporating the latest technology, such as colorful LED panels, the design showcases the colorful and dynamic nature of the music industry.

Despite budget constraints, the design team successfully overcame creative and technical challenges to create a stage that truly reflects the spirit of music. The result is a visually stunning and immersive experience for both the performers and the audience.

The stage design for Anugerah Industri Muzik 2012 received the Silver A' Design Award in the Performing Arts, Stage, Style, and Scenery Design category in 2013. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding expertise and innovation demonstrated in the design. It showcases the remarkable level of excellence and creativity that Rafidah Othman brought to this project, leaving the audience in awe and wonder.
