Situated in the midst of the ruins of batteries and barracks that played a significant role in Hong Kong's military history since 1911, the Mount Davis Youth Hostel stands as a testament to the past. Previously a 30-year-old small building cluster, the hostel underwent a complete refurbishment to transform it into a vibrant and popular destination for travelers.

The design of the hostel embraces the unique character of its surroundings, capturing the essence of Mount Davis and blending it seamlessly with the hostel's facilities. The new elements in the design symbolize energy, movement, and re-creation, taking the form of explosions. This dynamic aesthetic perfectly complements the hostel's target audience of young travelers seeking adventure and exploration.

However, the Mount Davis Youth Hostel goes beyond providing accommodation. It also serves as a platform for cultural tourism, offering visitors the opportunity to delve into the history of Hong Kong Island West. By combining hostel services with cultural experiences, the hostel creates a unique and immersive environment for its guests.

The project, led by Karr Yip Siu Ka and Wilson Lee Hau Pan, commenced in February 2012 in Hong Kong and was completed in August of the same year. The result is a vibrant and colorful space that breathes new life into the historical site, attracting visitors from all over the world.

The Mount Davis Youth Hostel has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2013, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious accolade is given to designs that demonstrate innovation, practicality, and adherence to professional and industrial standards.
