Donation boxes are a common sight in supermarkets and stores, but they often go unnoticed. The team at S Cube Design Lab recognized this issue and set out to create a solution that would encourage donations in a more engaging and meaningful way. The result is Puncheart, a unique punching tool that transforms empty bottles into personalized donation boxes.
Puncheart was inspired by the existing system of donation and the unattractive, unremarkable donation boxes found in various establishments. The team realized that one of the main problems with current donation systems is that donors have no idea where their money goes. To address this, Puncheart allows users to create their own donation boxes and choose which aid group they want to donate to, such as medical, water, or education.
The key feature of Puncheart is its ability to make a hole large enough for a coin. With this punching tool, users can easily transform a plastic bottle cap into a coin bank. The dimensions of Puncheart are 90mm in width, 55mm in depth, and 145mm in height. When users grip the red handle parts, it transforms into a heart shape, adding a touch of love to the act of giving.
After users have collected enough coins, they can donate the money to their chosen organization. To send the donation, an enclosed sticker is used to cover the hole, and another sticker containing the address is attached to the coin bank. This system ensures that donors receive feedback from organizations like UNICEF, including photos and letters from the recipients, providing a more meaningful and emotional donation experience.
Puncheart was designed with the intention of not only giving money but also fostering a sense of communication and connection between the donor and the beneficiary. By allowing individuals to design and create their own donation boxes, Puncheart encourages a more personal and heartfelt approach to giving.
The Puncheart project was started in January 2013 and finished in February 2013 in Korea. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2013, recognizing its outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. Puncheart is a shining example of how design can transform ordinary objects into meaningful works of art that inspire positive change.
