George Drakakis Redefines Urban Furniture with Award-Winning Design

The inspiration behind Eighternity was Drakakis' desire to deconstruct the perception of the urban bench. He aimed to create a design that respected existing city infrastructures and minimized disruption during installation. The result is a "just drop & forget" installation method, a refreshing departure from the traditional, often disruptive, installation processes.

Eighternity stands out for its robust design and ease of installation. Made from reinforced cast stone using a specific mold, the bench is geometrically stable and durable. The surface is softly acid-etched and waterproofed, ensuring longevity in various weather conditions. The bench's unique properties and design strengths lie in its simplicity and functionality.

The bench's dimensions are meticulously calculated for optimal comfort and stability. A single unit measures 1360 x 980 x 1050 mm, while two units measure 1360 x 1780 x 1050 mm. The curves of the bench provide a comfortable and embracing seating experience, while the positioning of the endings neutralizes any slight movement.

The design process of Eighternity, which spanned from January to March 2013, presented a creative challenge: redefining the common perception of the urban bench. Drakakis successfully overcame this challenge, creating a design that respects and enhances the existing urban environment.
