The uniqueness of the Fascickle lamp lies in its ability to coordinate figures and light to tell a story and produce new designs using shadows as part of the light installation. The interplay of the traditional Scottish pattern with the shadows and light from Japan creates a feeling of overwhelming beauty, fully demonstrating the charm of lighting as a simple substance. This lamp adapts aesthetics that appeal to both Japanese and Western European senses of style.
The lamp is meticulously crafted, with the legs assembled using acrylic material and the shade made from three pieces of heavy paper. The paper is laser-cut into six pieces to create three different patterns, which are then assembled from the inside. The final step involves attaching the light socket to complete the lamp. While currently handmade, there is potential to improve productivity by creating a shade molding using resin and a single leg and body molding.
The Fascickle lamp features a paper shade and acrylic legs, measuring W200 D200 H210. Its design allows for easy portability, and the process of installing and changing the light bulb is simple. The lamp can function as a floor lamp, a ceiling light, or be mounted to a wall, making it versatile for various spaces and settings.
During exhibitions, the Fascickle lamp has been seen as a potential complement to many intimate scenes, such as churches, tea houses, ceremonial marriage halls, nurseries, bedrooms, and living rooms. Its delicate lines allow for the transmission of intricate patterns of light and shadow, creating a sense of ease and relaxation. Whether you want to spend some quiet time alone, relaxing on the sofa or in bed, away from the hassles of daily life, the Fascickle lamp will create a calm and quiet space for you.
The Fascickle lamp project began in May 2013 in Japan and has been exhibited in Tokyo at "ACT ART COM" in June 2013 and in Fukuoka at "Tenjin Labo" in November 2013. The design is a result of extensive research into the checked pattern and its potential as an object of interior beauty. The challenge lay not only in expressing the pattern but also in combining the Japanese tradition of expressing beauty through shadow with design elements from Europe.
Fumiya Ino's Fascickle lamp is a testament to the power of blending tradition and innovation. By fusing the classic Scottish tartan pattern with the unique Japanese sensibility of shadow and light, Ino has created a design that is both familiar and captivating. The delicate transmission of light through the shade creates a beautiful sense of space, making the Fascickle lamp a true work of art.
