The Family Center Store is a unique retail space designed by Ali Alavi. The design is inspired by the nomadic architecture of Northern Iran, utilizing similar materials and contexture such as wood ceiling planks and panels, and sloped roofs. This connection to the local architectural heritage lends the store a sense of authenticity and familiarity, while also providing an innovative and modern retail experience.
One of the unique features of the Family Center Store is its enclosed front facade. This design choice was made for two reasons. Firstly, the existing building's elevation was unappealing and could not be altered. Secondly, by enclosing the front facade, Alavi was able to gain an additional 30 meters of wall space inside the store. This not only increased the store's display area but also served to pique the curiosity of passersby, drawing them into the store.
Alavi's innovative design approach has not gone unnoticed. The Family Center Store was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2014. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. It recognizes products and ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
Assisting Alavi in the creation of this remarkable design were Makan Gorjestani and Alireza Babazadeh Namini. The project, located in Mazandaran, Noor, Iran, was completed in 2013. The design process was characterized by careful observation and a deep understanding of the local architecture and the needs of the retail environment.
Ali Alavi's Family Center Store is a shining example of how traditional architectural elements can be reimagined to create modern, functional, and engaging spaces. It is a testament to the power of design to transform spaces, create intrigue, and enhance the retail experience.
