A Contemporary Take on Chinese Cuisine

Super Super Congee and Noodles, designed by J. Candice Interior Architects, is a Chinese fast food restaurant that offers a unique and contemporary dining experience. The design concept draws inspiration from the richness of Chinese food culture, with a focus on traditional kitchen utensils. The goal was to break away from the conventional business idea and interior design of a Chinese congee restaurant, creating a space that is both modern and comfortable.

The restaurant's brand identity is characterized by clean lines and modern forms, creating a casual and inviting atmosphere. The primary color palette consists of black and white, combined with light tones, while copper and wood are used extensively throughout the design. The furniture design is minimalistic and abstract, allowing the texture of the materials to take center stage.

One of the standout features of Super Super Congee and Noodles is the custom-designed wallpaper, which showcases a black and white graphic made up of Chinese cooking supplies silhouettes. This modern interpretation of traditional elements creates a sense of modern chinoiserie, where tradition and contemporary design merge seamlessly.

The design realization of Super Super Congee and Noodles involved the use of customized wallpaper, ceramic tile, and plastic laminate. The 1800 sq ft space was completed in March 2013 in Hong Kong, with Leo Chiu as part of the design team.

One of the main challenges faced during the design process was finding the right balance between old and new, and integrating traditional Chinese elements with modern design. The solution was the custom-designed wallpaper, which serves as a dynamic backdrop for the restaurant, adding a modern Chinese flare.

Super Super Congee and Noodles features a communal table, a new element that adds vibrancy to the traditional quick-serve restaurant experience. This design innovation creates a lively and energetic atmosphere for diners.

The design of Super Super Congee and Noodles has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2014. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity and ingenuity, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The restaurant's design contributes to quality of life improvements, making it a standout in the industry.
