Vector – Vacuity vs. Reality

Residential House Design by Shih-Kai Chen

This four-story residential building construction and interior design project showcases a unique approach to blending vacuity and reality.

The Vector – Vacuity vs. Reality design, created by renowned designer Shih-Kai Chen, is a residential house that stands out for its distinctive features and innovative design elements. The elongated construction site provided the opportunity to create a facade that is both visually striking and functional.

The exterior of the building is adorned with precast concrete panels, which are coated with a faux wood grain texture, giving it a modern yet natural look. The dark-colored pebble paver and solid wood steel door further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the building. Notably, the entrance is intentionally designed on the side, creating a natural vestibule that seamlessly connects the interior and exterior spaces.

The design of the Vector – Vacuity vs. Reality house extends beyond its exterior. The interior materials and finishes are carefully selected to maintain consistency with the building's facade, creating a harmonious and cohesive living environment.

The design team faced several challenges during the creation of this project. One of the main challenges was to ensure optimal sound quality in the entertainment room. To overcome this, both sides of the room were equipped with sound-dampening fabric, while the wooden grille on the ceiling and the metal open shelf at the back were strategically placed to enhance the acoustics.

The Vector – Vacuity vs. Reality house is a testament to the designer's creativity and attention to detail. The project was completed in October 2013 in Zhubei City, Taiwan, and has since garnered recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2019, which recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.

With its unique blend of vacuity and reality, the Vector – Vacuity vs. Reality house showcases the possibilities of modern residential design. It serves as an inspiration for those seeking to create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and innovative.
