Residential Penthouse with Minimalist Design

Achieving Maximum Open Space and Natural Light

Marie Laurent Architecture brings the outside inside with a stunning residential penthouse design that maximizes open space and natural light. With a minimalist approach and attention to detail, this project creates a unique living experience.

This residential penthouse, designed by Marie Laurent, has undergone a complete renovation to achieve a minimalist aesthetic. The open plan living, dining, lounge, and kitchen area seamlessly blend the indoors with the outdoors, thanks to the maximum ceiling height and double windows on the facade. The use of natural materials adds texture and character to the space, while the strategic placement of artificial lighting creates a cozy and individual atmosphere at night.

Avoiding corridors and focusing on perspectives in every area was a key design approach. The penthouse features only three main doors, each installed at full height with a pivoting system. Bright colors mark each room, adding a touch of vibrancy to the minimalist design. The relocation and reinstallation of the AC system allowed for a maximum ceiling height, resulting in more windows and an abundance of natural light. The structural support beams are left exposed, adding an industrial touch to the space.

The engineering parquet flooring was installed without any connection or expansion joints, creating a seamless look throughout the 750 square meter apartment. Custom-made skirting, flushed into the wall, and an L-shaped wall mount plate on the floor allow for the necessary expansion of the wood over a 37-meter span without interruption.

This penthouse features a loft concept with two bedrooms and a full open space layout. The design prioritizes the integration of natural light and views, with all areas and volumes oriented towards the 270-degree panorama of the sea, marina, and desert. This unique feature gives the penthouse a distinct character.

The design phase for this project started in September 2013 and lasted for two months. The construction phase, including the complete demolition of the space to its core and shell, took four months. The final fit-out, which involved custom-made furniture and automation, was completed in one month. The penthouse is located in Dubai Marina Tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

One of the main challenges of this design was working with the existing layout and mechanical, plumbing, and electrical systems of the top floor of the tower. Going back to the core and shell before construction was essential to create the desired open space while ensuring proper ventilation and air pressure control.

Marie Laurent Architecture's design approach for this project focused on maximizing open space and enhancing natural light. The 7500 square foot penthouse offers breathtaking views and incorporates perspectives in every area to bring the outside inside. Marie Laurent's attention to detail completes the minimalist concept, where architecture is beautiful, simple, and sure.

This design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2014 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
