MealBox: Innovating Food Packaging for Online Sales and Home Delivery

Enhancing Customer Satisfaction and Functionality

MealBox, designed by Musa Çelik of Tasarist, is revolutionizing the way food is packaged and delivered to customers. With its unique combination of functionality and visual appeal, this design aims to increase after-sale customer satisfaction and elevate the overall dining experience.

In the world of online sales and home delivery, food packaging often serves only one purpose - to carry the product. However, MealBox takes a different approach. Inspired by tray and table mat figures, this innovative design turns the box into an integral component of the customer experience.

MealBox stands out from ordinary cartons commonly used in the industry. Its external part features a windowed surface, enhancing visual appeal. The box has an asymmetric oral form, making it easy to open. On the inside, the design incorporates a tray, while the front cover can also be used as a table mat. These features not only provide ease of use but also elevate the presentation of the food, adding a touch of style to every meal.

The box is made from 350 g bristol board and utilizes offset printing and partial lac for the graphics. Its dimensions are 240 x 50 x 310 mm (wxdxh), with a weight of approximately 140 g.

MealBox was designed by Musa Çelik and developed in Istanbul, Turkey, from November 2013 to March 2014. Extensive online research was conducted to gather inspiration and insights from various food packaging and box design examples. This knowledge allowed the design team to understand the latest trends, identify must-have features, and address the shortcomings of the category.

The main challenges of the project were to reflect the modern and urban image of the brand while increasing after-sales satisfaction. These goals were achieved through ease of use, a stylish food presentation, distinctive features, and a minimalist design.

MealBox not only enhances the dining experience but also offers versatility. After delivery, the internal part can be gently pulled out of the external one, allowing for different usages. The part that contains the food can be used as a tray, and the front cover doubles as a table mat. The stylish appearance of the external part also makes it suitable for use as a storage box for files, papers, photos, and more.

The MealBox design by Musa Çelik has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Packaging Design category in 2015. This prestigious accolade is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, evoking positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

With MealBox, Musa Çelik has successfully transformed food packaging into an art form, elevating the customer experience and setting new standards in the industry.
