Sparkle, a stunning handknotted rug from the Celebration collection, is a testament to the power of design to evoke cherished memories. Created by renowned designer K.Michelle Evans, this rug captures the essence of celebrating life with loved ones. With its bold and modern design, vibrant palette of rich blues, purples, and gold, Sparkle transports us to a Parisian dinner party, where the light catches the sparkle on a bracelet, echoing the jewelry worn in its abstract form.

What sets Sparkle apart is its unique combination of art, beauty, and comfort. Evans aimed to create a three-dimensional design in a two-dimensional form that would not only be visually appealing but also functional for the end user. The rug is meticulously handcrafted using the Persian Knot technique, ensuring durability and longevity. The silk yarns, handspun and double-dyed to create tonal variations, add texture and depth to the design.

Measuring 2500mm in width and 3000mm in height, Sparkle is a true masterpiece. Its construction with 120 knots per square inch results in a higher density, allowing for intricate detailing and a luxurious thickness. The use of handspun silk, known for its durability and lustrous sheen, adds to the rug's unique properties.

Evans's design philosophy is rooted in her extensive experience as a hospitality designer. Having worked in renowned interior design companies across London, Los Angeles, and Dubai, she noticed a lack of rugs on the market that offered more than just a pattern. This led her to establish her own company, Ayka Design, with a focus on creating bespoke rugs that combine artistic expression with functionality.

Creating Sparkle was not without its challenges. While the technique of handknotted rugs was familiar to the skilled weavers in India, the abstract and modern design presented a new form of expression. Through training and collaboration, the weavers embraced the design vision of Ayka Design, breaking down the barriers between tradition and the new era of rug design.

Sparkle was completed in September 2013, after five months of meticulous hand weaving. Its intricate details and impeccable craftsmanship earned it the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2015. This accolade recognizes the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of the design, which seamlessly blends art, science, and technology to enhance the quality of life.
