Inspired by the challenge of creating a dining area in a compact 32 square meter environment, the Niko table offers a versatile and space-saving solution. By utilizing two rotating planes positioned on a suspended triangular support, the table can be easily transformed and adapted to various needs.
The strength of the Niko table lies in its ability to occupy the surface area of a traditional table, while also being able to eliminate bulk when not in use. The rotating planes, with a length of 120 cm and a width of 40 cm, can be easily rotated to form a table or rotated back to create a streamlined and unobtrusive structure.
Constructed from materials such as wood, iron, or plastic, the Niko table can be realized using various techniques, including molding, crafting, or 3D laser machines. The design allows for customization in terms of dimensions and height, making it suitable for a range of applications, from a dining table to a workbench, a double bed, or a bedside table.
The Niko table challenges the traditional notion of a table, offering a dynamic and versatile alternative that maximizes space and functionality. By eliminating the need for permanent feet, the table provides ample room for circulation, making it ideal for small apartments or compact living areas.
The design process for the Niko table began in 2000 in Salerno and lasted for a month. The first prototype is located in Naples, in an apartment, while the second prototype can be found in the store of Tisseranderie Arredamenti in Salerno.
This innovative design has received recognition for its excellence and innovation. In 2013, the Niko table was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award highlights the remarkable technical characteristics and artistic skill of the design, as well as its ability to evoke positive feelings and wonder.
The Niko table is a testament to the power of innovative design in solving practical challenges, offering a dynamic and multifunctional solution for small spaces.
