Roadie: Discover Milan by Bike with a Friend

A Mobile App for Expo 2015

Roadie is a mobile application designed by Wild Foxes for those who want to discover Milan by bike during Expo 2015. It suggests random thematic itineraries that allow users to explore the city in a unique way.

Roadie was inspired by the idea of encouraging tourists and visitors to choose biking as a means of transportation in Milan. The designers at Wild Foxes wanted to create an app that would make biking more accessible and enjoyable. They imagined Roadie as a friend who knows the city well and guides users through bike-friendly journeys.

What sets Roadie apart from other apps is its audio guide feature. Once users start an itinerary, the app provides an audio guide that points out interesting landmarks, buildings, and sights along the way. It works in conjunction with the city's bike-sharing system, allowing users to easily navigate through the city.

One of the key features of Roadie is the ability for users to leave feedback and record vocal notes about their experiences. This user-generated content helps improve the app and provides valuable information for other users. It also allows users to share their opinions and suggestions, creating a community of bike enthusiasts.

Roadie utilizes GPS technology to create itineraries based on the user's location. The app also ranks itineraries based on user feedback, ensuring that the most popular and enjoyable routes are highlighted. To fully experience Roadie, users are encouraged to wear earphones to listen to the audio guide.

The design process for Roadie involved sketches and wireframes to ensure a fluent and easy user experience. A quick prototype was also created to test the app's functionality and gather user feedback. The project was completed in June 2014 in Milan as part of an academic course in interaction design at Politecnico di Milano.

Roadie received the Silver A' Design Award in 2015 for its outstanding expertise and innovation in mobile technologies, applications, and software design. The app was recognized for its strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, providing users with a remarkable level of excellence and a sense of wonder.

Discover Milan in a whole new way with Roadie, your biking companion that brings the city to life.
