Lotus: A Reception Center Designed by Dumas Interior Design

A Unique and Bright Architectural Gem in Taichung City

The Lotus reception center is a stunning example of innovative design in the heart of Taichung City, Taiwan. Completed in 2013, this reception center is a true standout amidst its surroundings. The solid wood floor folds into a vertical position, cut obliquely to form the architecture's façade. This unique feature not only adds visual interest but also showcases the designer's attention to detail and creativity.

One of the most striking elements of the Lotus reception center is the placement of white acrylic square light boxes of various sizes inside. These light boxes, resembling frozen musical notes during the daytime, create a captivating and ethereal ambiance. They serve as a testament to the designer's ability to seamlessly blend form and function.

The realization of the Lotus reception center involved the use of various materials, including wood, glass, iron, tile, and marble. The combination of these materials adds depth and texture to the design, further enhancing its visual appeal. The use of wood, iron composite-coated structural steel frames, and HDPE panels for the envelope ensures the durability and longevity of the structure.

The cross walls, made of either glass or clear and satin polycarbonate, allow for natural light to permeate the space, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Dumas Interior Design, led by Yu-Lin Shin and Ya-Ting Yu, successfully overcame various creative, technical, and research challenges to bring the Lotus reception center to life. Their firm belief in the fusion of science and art is evident in every aspect of this design, from the choice of materials to the placement of light boxes.

The Lotus reception center has garnered well-deserved recognition and accolades. In 2015, it was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category.
