The design of Café Bord de Mer draws inspiration from the ocean, with its signature columns resembling rolls of letter papers tied with a metal string. This unique concept is reminiscent of the tradition of "Message in a Bottle," where people make a wish and toss their message into the ocean. The columns not only serve as a visual focal point but also create a fascinating lighting effect that highlights the surfaces.
One of the standout features of Café Bord de Mer is its full-length windows, which maximize the breathtaking view of the South China Sea. The restaurant adopts an open layout with interactive cooking stations and timber finishes, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The ceiling is adorned with massive wood blinds that elegantly split up the sun rays, adding to the coastal ambiance.
Materials such as apple wood veneer, stone, wood furniture, and soft feather down cushions are used to create a coastal and holiday atmosphere. The combination of these elements, along with the feature lighting, transports guests to a relaxing seaside getaway.
The design team faced several challenges during the project, including a limited budget and the constraints of a listed building. However, they managed to overcome these obstacles by carefully selecting furniture and materials that represented the functional character of the restaurant.
Café Bord de Mer offers a range of spatial experiences for guests. The indoor dining area provides a comfortable space to enjoy a meal, while the cozy bar is perfect for pre-dinner drinks and relaxation. For those who prefer an outdoor setting, the restaurant also offers an inviting seating area that allows guests to experience the ambiance of a seashore environment.
Located in Hong Kong, the project took place from November 2011 to November 2012. The design was meticulously researched, with ideas inspired by the ocean and its traditions. The use of colors and decorations, such as white and navy blue, as well as shell motifs, further enhance the coastal theme.
Café Bord de Mer has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in 2015. This award recognizes the outstanding expertise and innovation demonstrated by the design team. The restaurant's strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill create an atmosphere that elicits positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
Experience the coastal charm and tranquility of Café Bord de Mer, where the ocean's beauty meets exceptional design.
