An Old Blacksmith's Workshop, abandoned and turned down by time, only to be given birth again many years later as a FireWood Oven and grill restaurant. FOODSMITH in TajMall - Amman reflects what can be achieved when given the freedom to design without much client intervention. Built almost entirely from reclaimed materials, this restaurant showcases the possibilities of sustainable design.
The design team, ABIDI wa HAKKI - Two Opposites Design, took on the challenge of reincarnating reclaimed materials to create a functional and visually enticing space. The restaurant features elements made from recycled lumber wood, copper pipes, cement bricks, and other reclaimed materials. The result is a unique and eco-friendly dining experience.
The restaurant spans 150sqm on the ground floor, with the kitchen and services located upstairs covering 70 sqm. The interior design, branding, and concept were all meticulously crafted by ABIDI wa HAKKI. The team's attention to detail and use of computer visualization software ensured that every brick, plank, and pipe was carefully orchestrated and manifested through detailed construction drawings.
Visitors to FOODSMITH are immediately struck by the ambiance and cannot believe that the restaurant decor was made almost entirely from waste products and reclaimed materials. The photos of the space do not do it justice. The design successfully combines sustainability with aesthetic appeal, creating a space that is both environmentally conscious and visually stunning.
The project concept design started in January 2014, and the site was handed over in July 2014. Throughout the process, the design team conducted extensive research on recycled and reclaimed materials. Copper piping, cement brick tiles, and reclaimed wood in various shapes and sizes were gathered and used to bring the concept to life. The result is an orderly chaotic design that showcases the beauty of repurposed materials.
FOODSMITH - FireWood Oven & Grill has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2015 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The restaurant's strong technical characteristics and sustainable design approach have made it a popular outing location in Jordan.
