Tentative, designed by Hakan Gürsu of Designnobis, is a smart compact post disaster shelter tent that aims to provide fast and practical shelter to emergency disaster victims. Inspired by the recent earthquakes in Turkey, where there was a lack of qualified shelters for temporary living, this innovative tent offers a solution to the pressing need for sturdy temporary shelters that can be quickly deployed.
The compact disaster shelter is made of a fiber and a durable weather-resistant textile, quilted and sewed together, with thermally insulated perlite in between. It features a roof that collects water and provides lighting and ventilation. The floor is made of thermal-insulating recyclable composite decks, and the tent is elevated above the ground to prevent heat loss.
With dimensions of 200cm width, 400cm depth, and 250cm height when open, Tentative can accommodate two adults and two children. It can be transported easily, with 24 tents fitting into a single semi-trailer truck, thanks to its compact size. The tent can be fully expanded by opening the covers used as a roof and floor, raising the aluminum structural parts and doors for stability, and stretching the fabric between the roof and the floor.
Tentative is not only lightweight and compact but also designed to adapt to different situations, terrains, and climates. It can be quickly deployed in various disaster zones, providing individual living spaces for those in need. Its collapsible design allows for easy transportation and setup, making it suitable for all climates. With the necessary tools, it takes only an hour to pop up the tent.
Designed in July 2014 in Ankara, Tentative has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Social Design category in 2015. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line designs that showcase outstanding expertise and innovation. Tentative's strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill have made it a remarkable solution for emergency shelter needs.
Overall, Tentative is a testament to the power of design in addressing real-world challenges. By providing fast and practical shelter to emergency disaster victims, this smart compact post disaster shelter tent offers hope and comfort in times of crisis.
