L-shape Concrete Public Seat: A Modern and Versatile Design

Unleashing the Potential of Concrete

Concrete public seats have always posed a challenge due to their size and weight, making transportation and formation difficult. However, the Product Design R&D Center of SWJTU has found a solution by disassembling the traditional concrete seat into L-shape structures. This innovative approach not only simplifies transportation but also allows for various combinations, giving the seat a sense of flexibility and adaptability.

The L-shape concrete public seat is a unique and versatile design that breaks away from the stiffness often associated with concrete. By flipping a single "L" shape, the seat is formed, and the proper connection of both sides creates a sense of rhythm. The L-shape structure can be modified and reformed to produce various types of combinations, adapting to different sizes of fields and satisfying multiple demands of usage.

Made of concrete, steel, wood, and PVC tube, each L-shape structure is created through wooden molding and concrete placement. By positioning equal-distance holes on the structure, they can be joined together using long screw bolts, forming a sturdy and functional public seat.

The specifications of each L-shape structure are as follows: the long side measures 44cm, the short side measures 38cm, and the width and height are 10cm and 5cm, respectively. Each L-shape structure weighs 8kg.

The L-shape concrete public seat is not only a practical seating solution but also a visually appealing addition to any space. Its modern style and sense of rhythm make it suitable for university campuses, public gardens, and various other settings. The ability to modify and reform the structure allows for endless possibilities, creating interactive spaces for people to communicate and engage with each other.

This innovative design project was initiated in Spring 2014 at SWJTU and completed in July 2014 in Chengdu. The L-shape concrete public seat can now be found at Southwest Jiaotong University, showcasing the successful realization of this unique concept.

The L-shape concrete public seat has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2015. This prestigious award is a testament to the design's creativity, professionalism, and innovation. The L-shape concrete public seat stands out for its technical characteristics, artistic skill, and ability to evoke positive emotions, amazement, and wonder.
