Café: A Unique and Impacting Center Table

Bringing Brazilian Coffee Culture to Furniture Design

Inspired by the rich coffee culture of Brazil, the Café Central Table by Mula Preta Design is a stunning piece of furniture that combines art and design. With its unique asymmetric shape, this center table pays homage to the country's coffee beans, creating a captivating and original design.

The Café Central Table stands out with its imposing and unconventional form, capturing the essence of Brazilian coffee beans. The scaled proportion of a seed sparks curiosity and invites users to explore new levels of abstraction and originality. The table's sinuous shape interrupts the brutalism of the material, adding a touch of timelessness to the piece.

The realization of the Café Central Table involved a meticulous process. The designers started by translating their thoughts to paper, creating detailed drawings. A NURBS model was then developed and printed in 3D to test the aesthetic appeal. Once approved, a scale model was made using concrete to test the strength and functionality of the design.

Measuring 1210mm (W) x 480mm (D) x 300mm (H), the Café Central Table is designed to fit seamlessly into cool and large environments. Despite its appearance, the table is surprisingly lightweight, making it easy to move with the help of two people. It is a versatile piece that can be placed in living rooms, providing both functionality and artistic expression.

The Café Central Table project was completed between September and November 2014. It was part of a collaboration with the renowned Italian brand, Il Cantiere, known for their exceptional concrete pieces and architectural elements. The design team at Mula Preta aimed to define Brazilian culture through shapes and materials, and this particular table embodies the expressive and artistic nature of the country.

The Café Central Table received the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2015. This prestigious accolade is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and creativity. The table's strong technical characteristics and remarkable artistic skill evoke positive feelings of amazement and wonder.

With the Café Central Table, Mula Preta Design has successfully translated the essence of Brazilian coffee culture into a captivating piece of furniture. Its unique shape and use of materials make it a standout addition to any space, showcasing the intersection of art, design, and functionality.
