Opposites In Unity: A Unique Blend of Conflict and Harmony

Unveiling the Beauty of Materials through Design

With the Opposites In Unity series, Firo Wang and the Siince2020 Design Team showcase the beauty of materials found in Shanghai's construction sites. Through their innovative approach, they transform unwanted objects into stunning candleholders and vases, creating a visual language that speaks of conflict and reciprocal causation.

Inspired by the vast construction sites of Shanghai, Firo Wang, the chief designer of Siince2020 Design Team, embarked on a journey to explore the beauty of discarded materials. His series, Opposites In Unity, aims to showcase the inherent charm of these unwanted objects. With a childlike curiosity, Wang began experimenting with metal pipes, flattening and folding them like little kids playing with twigs. The simplicity of the process brought forth rich philosophical thinking and artistic matching effects.

What sets Opposites In Unity apart is the visual language it creates. The alteration of the metal pipes gives birth to conflicting and interdependent forms, shaping both three-dimensional objects and two-dimensional surfaces. Lines, surfaces, and objects interact, creating a visually striking contrast. This conflict and reciprocal causation generate a dramatic effect with deep philosophical connotations.

Wang intentionally kept the machining of the Opposites In Unity series at a low level, focusing on flattening and folding. This approach allows the materials to speak for themselves, emphasizing their raw beauty. The resulting designs are a testament to Wang's understanding and appreciation of art and forms.

The Opposites In Unity series encompasses a range of designs, each exploring the theme of conflict and harmony in its unique way. From elegant triangle-shaped bases to surrealistic compositions, each piece offers a different perspective on the interplay between opposing forces. The series also extends beyond candleholders and vases, with table-art sculptures and desk-mates that double as small bookshelves. These functional pieces feature geometric frames that add a modern sense of beauty to any space.

Siince2020 Design Team, founded in Shanghai in 2017, believes in creating a tangible future where design meets pragmatism. Opposites In Unity, an unreleased series that started in 2016, exemplifies their commitment to pushing the boundaries of design.

Opposites In Unity serves as a reminder of how conflicting values and ideologies can complete each other, creating a balanced whole. It draws inspiration from the core of traditional Chinese philosophy, the Doctrine of the Mean, which emphasizes the harmony achieved through the integration of opposing elements.

With Opposites In Unity, Firo Wang and the Siince2020 Design Team invite us to explore the beauty of materials and the profound messages conveyed through visual language. These designs not only add visual energy to a space but also inspire cultural reflection and association.
