Workshop and Speedo, sought inspiration from nature to address the challenges of creating large, buoyant paddles that move smoothly through water. The Humpback Whale's pectoral fin, lined with tubercles, provided the perfect model. These nodules create a larger surface area for water to pass over, enabling the whale to move quickly and with agility. Implementing this concept, the team designed the SMAO Paddles to offer a smooth, controlled trajectory and an aggressive water entry, catering to the needs of elite freestyle sprinters.

The SMAO Paddles are crafted from PLUSfoam®, a performance-based, 100% recyclable material. This material outperforms traditional EVA in various categories, including rebound, compression, and elongation. It also offers better traction in wet and dry conditions. The use of PLUSfoam® not only enhances the performance of the paddles but also contributes to environmental sustainability, as it uses less energy to process and is endlessly recyclable.

These paddles, weighing 10.8 ounces each, are designed to refine the drive-in phase of the stroke and reinforce a high elbow catch.
