Life Luxe Day Spa + Laser: A Harmonious Blend of Art Nouveau and Modernism

A Unique and Luxurious Spa Experience in Vancouver

The inspiration for this design came from the Art Nouveau art movement and mid-century Modern aesthetic. The goal was to create a beautiful organic spa experience with rich colors, curves, and textures, while also incorporating a European flare. However, the existing space presented challenges in terms of building curvilinear forms. To overcome this, the designers decided to use 2D organic graphics inspired by Art Nouveau, a distinct but well-forgotten style that captivated Europe at the end of the 19th century.

The design inside the spa is clean and simple, striking the right balance between the different and distinct elements from each style. The corporate color palette selected was minimalist white accented by rich chocolate, gold, and yellow, which are widely used in Art Nouveau. The combination of saturated brown color with crisp white light, whiplash curves, and intricate organic graphics with bold straight lines creates a visually stunning and harmonious space.

The treatment rooms have low light levels to enhance relaxation and intimacy, while the storefront looks like a bright showroom. The layered ceiling adds interest and depth, while also concealing mechanical, electrical, and other technical functions. The broad brown line that travels around the salon, wrapping the front entrance wall and ceiling, adds a bold and minimalist touch, drawing inspiration from Art Nouveau.

The design also incorporates high gloss epoxy flooring, custom furniture, and European pendant lights, adding a touch of luxury to the space. The waiting area is defined by wisteria-inspired golden shimmer beads reflected in full-height mirrors, creating a sense of spaciousness. Each treatment room is named after a flower and adopts concept-inspired colors and styles, giving life to these revitalized private spaces.

The new storefront glazing not only serves as a canvas for custom graphics but also reduces outside noise, creating a tranquil spa setting within the space. Overall, Life Luxe Day Spa + Laser is a beautiful, flexible, and fully accessible spa salon that attracts and invites people in.

The project, which started in August 2014 and was completed in early November of the same year, transformed a space that needed more than just a cosmetic makeover. The electrical and mechanical systems were overhauled, the space-function and flow were vastly improved, and a unique brand was developed. The result is a spa that offers a unique and luxurious experience for its clients.

Life Luxe Day Spa + Laser was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2016 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative creation. This award recognizes designs that meet professional and industrial requirements while also contributing to a better world.
