Interlock: A Timeless Design by André Verroken for Studio André Verroken

A Fusion of Art and Functionality

Interlock is a unique piece of furniture that transcends traditional design boundaries, created by renowned designer André Verroken for Studio André Verroken. Inspired by a desire to break away from the commercial objects dominating the consumer society, Verroken's design philosophy is centered around creating objects that provoke curiosity and challenge conventional norms.

What sets Interlock apart is its ability to capture the imagination and evoke a sense of timelessness. Just as a piece of music reveals time through sound and rhythm, Interlock's furniture sculptures transcend themselves through their proportions, changing surfaces, and delicate balance. This oeuvre, with its insistent quest for existence beyond fashion's ephemerality, remains unaffected by passing trends.

The dining and/or conference table, aptly named "Homage to Eduardo Chillida," is a testament to Verroken's craftsmanship and vision. Measuring 2200 x 9000 x 750 mm in height, this natural varnished table is a fusion of classical elegance and contemporary design. It is meticulously handcrafted and machine-made by the skilled furniture-maker Hans De Keyser from Kluisbergen in Flanders/Belgium.

Interlock's technical specifications are a testament to its quality and attention to detail. Each piece is carefully packed in wooden boxes, ensuring its safe transportation and delivery. Verroken's collaboration with De Keyser and his team has resulted in a masterpiece that combines complexity with legibility and structure.

The journey of creating Interlock was not without its challenges. Verroken's commitment to creating objects with lasting value and significance required the expertise and passion of his collaborators. Together, they overcame creative, technical, and research obstacles to bring this beautiful work of art to life.

Interlock is a symbol of Verroken's admiration and respect for the renowned Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida. The idea for this homage originated during Verroken's visit to Chillida's house in San Sebastian, Spain, in the late '90s. This design is a metaphorical expression of Verroken's deep appreciation for one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.

A testament to its excellence, Interlock has been awarded the prestigious Iron A' Design Award in 2016. This accolade recognizes its well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities that meet professional and industrial requirements. Interlock's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contribute to a better world, providing fulfillment and positive experiences.

Interlock is a testament to Verroken's ability to create designs that transcend time and captivate the senses. Its fusion of art, architecture, and functionality makes it a truly unique addition to any space.
