Janus: Stapled Dishes with a Timeless and Classical Design

Unveiling the Unique and Complex Janus Design by André Verroken

André Verroken's Janus design is a classical masterpiece that sets itself apart from contemporary trends. With its timeless appeal, complex yet easy-to-understand structure, and interlocked or stapled objects, Janus brings a touch of sophistication to any space.

Janus, a dish designed by André Verroken, is a stunning example of classical design that stands out from the crowd. Unlike many other designs that follow fleeting fashion trends, Janus is timeless, complex, yet easy to comprehend. Its structured and legible form makes it a true work of art.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Janus is its unique composition. Comprising two parts, the dish features an exterior portion made of dark blue ceramic or porter, and an interior part made of light blue ceramic, serving as a real dish. This combination of colors and materials adds depth and visual interest to the design.

The production process of Janus involves collaboration with skilled artisans. The exterior and interior dishes are meticulously handcrafted by renowned ceramist Claude Aiëllo, based in Vallauris, France. The table-top, made of plywood, is developed in Italy, manufactured in Hong Kong, and distributed in Germany. This innovative use of plywood adds a modern touch to the classical design.

Janus comes in various sizes to suit different needs. The exterior dish measures 370/550 mm in diameter and 260 mm in height, while the interior dish has a diameter of 348 mm and a height of 245 mm. The low tables, with heights of 260 mm and 520 mm, allow the table-top to be slipped over the exterior dish or dishes. The dining table, consisting of three stacked dishes and the plywood-top, stands at a height of 780 mm. The plywood is finished with a natural varnish, enhancing its beauty.

Janus will be available in specialized design shops, ensuring that it reaches the hands of those who appreciate its unique charm. Additionally, it will be featured in design magazines and on television, further promoting its exquisite craftsmanship and timeless appeal.

The journey of creating Janus was not without its challenges. Designing new objects is always an adventure, but André Verroken and his team overcame the obstacles with their experience and passion, resulting in a truly remarkable work of art.

Janus is a testament to André Verroken's dedication to classical design and his ability to create pieces that are both visually captivating and functional. With its timeless appeal, complex yet legible structure, and interlocked or stapled objects, Janus is a true masterpiece that will stand the test of time.
