When it comes to menswear, the struggle lies in finding the balance between ready-to-wear and couture. Valentina Lin, the visionary behind #infinitecreativity, has successfully bridged this gap by creating a collection that is both wearable and visually striking. By incorporating abstract patterns instead of prints, Lin has shattered the notion that men's fashion should be limited to simplicity.
The uniqueness of the #infinitecreativity collection lies in its shedding detail, achieved through the application of couture techniques. This shedding effect not only adds a touch of masculinity to the garments but also elevates their exclusivity and perceived value. The combination of black and white further enhances the luxurious and expensive aesthetic of the collection.
Technical prowess is at the core of the realization of this collection. Lin utilized five different fabrics, including semi-wool for the outer layer, cotton for the shirts, and leather and Prada lace for the shedding detail. The meticulous stitching of the seam allowances on the outside creates the desired shedding snake effect, adding depth and texture to the garments.
For the photoshoot, the model's look was carefully curated to complement the garments. Dark eye shadow, eyeliner, and lipstick were applied to create a mysterious and edgy vibe. The hair was styled in a messy manner, perfectly aligning with the concept of the collection.
Size-wise, the #infinitecreativity collection follows European men's sizing standards. However, the vest was intentionally designed slightly smaller to allow for photoshoots with female models as well. This decision aimed to challenge the perception that menswear is exclusively for men, opening up the possibility for women to embrace these unique designs.
Abstract is the driving force behind this collection. By defying the norms of simplicity, Lin encourages individuals to embrace their uniqueness and stand out from the crowd. Fashion is not about conforming; it is about inventiveness and newness. The #infinitecreativity collection targets those who dare to be different, inspiring them to change the way they perceive fashion.
The #infinitecreativity collection was brought to life between July and September 2015. It made its debut at the "VISION" fashion show at the Senayan National Golf Club in Jakarta on September 14th, 2015. Subsequently, it was showcased at the "TRANSPIRE" fashion show and exhibited at the Fairmont Hotel Jakarta on September 21st, 2015.
Valentina Lin's research for this collection focused on challenging the conventional understanding of menswear. The shedding snake detail, combined with abstract black and white patterns, aims to redefine men's fashion and expand its boundaries. The collection received the Bronze A' Design Award in 2016, recognizing its outstanding creativity and ingenious design.
With the #infinitecreativity collection, Valentina Lin has proven that men's fashion can be bold, daring, and unconventional. By embracing abstract patterns and incorporating unique shedding details, Lin has redefined the boundaries of menswear, inspiring individuals to embrace their creativity and stand out from the crowd.
