AngledSHELF: A Unique Bookshelf Design by Kemal Yıldırım

A Practical and Innovative Storage Solution

The bookshelf's design was inspired by the skew lines, resulting in angled shelves that allow books to stand upright.

Kemal Yıldırım, a renowned designer, has created a truly unique bookshelf design called AngledSHELF. This innovative piece of furniture challenges traditional bookshelf designs with its angled shelves, providing both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

The AngledSHELF bookshelf offers a high storage capacity, particularly for books of different dimensions. Its design allows for books to stand upright, preventing them from toppling over. This feature not only ensures the safety of your books but also adds a visually striking element to any space.

One of the standout features of the AngledSHELF is its versatility. It can be backed up against walls, allowing for easy access from one side, or it can be freestanding, providing access from both sides. This flexibility makes it suitable for various settings, including homes and offices.

What sets the AngledSHELF apart from other bookshelves is its assembly process. Unlike traditional designs that require connection elements, this bookshelf can be easily assembled without the need for any additional hardware. The notched parts of the shelves fit seamlessly into the notched parts of the perpendicular carrier pieces, ensuring a sturdy and secure structure.

The AngledSHELF is made from melamine-coated Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF), a material that is not only durable but also environmentally friendly. The MDF used in its production is reusable, and its waste is almost completely recyclable. This sustainable approach adds another layer of appeal to this innovative design.

With dimensions of 120 cm (w) x 30 cm (d) x 185 cm (h), the AngledSHELF provides ample space for your book collection. Each angled bookshelf box can hold a maximum weight of 40 kg, and a total of 440 boxes can be placed and transported in a 20 cubic foot container.

The AngledSHELF design project started in April 2015 in Ankara, Turkey. Throughout the process, Kemal Yıldırım conducted extensive research to determine the optimal angle for the shelves, resulting in a visually appealing and functional bookshelf.

This unique bookshelf design challenges conventional perceptions with its practical assembly method and angled shelves. It has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.

The AngledSHELF bookshelf is not only a storage solution but also a piece of art that adds elegance and sophistication to any space. Its combination of functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability makes it a must-have for design enthusiasts and book lovers alike.
