Gobo's Vector Equilibrium draws inspiration from ancient concepts of harmony and aesthetics, incorporating the golden ratio and sacred numbers to create a truly unique lighting experience.

The Vector Equilibrium (V.E.) is a pendant and modular lighting design that showcases a perfect balance of proportions and a spirit of harmony. Designed by Brevers Nicolas, this innovative lighting fixture combines functionality with aesthetic appeal, allowing users to regulate its luminosity through modulation. The V.E. features a pulley system and a spherical glass vase that serves as a counterbalance, adding a touch of elegance and versatility to the design.

One of the key strengths of the Vector Equilibrium is its ability to transform into different geometric shapes. When deployed, it converts into a majestic and aerial cuboctahedron, creating a captivating visual display. When contracted, it transforms into a more discreet icosahedron, blending seamlessly into any space. In both configurations, the light bulb remains centered, ensuring ideal proportions and optimal lighting.

The Vector Equilibrium is crafted using high-quality materials, including 3mm plexiglass triangles, brass tubes, nylon rope, and a glass vase. The design is realized through 3D modeling on Rhino software and laser cutting technology, resulting in precise and intricate details. With dimensions of 800mm in width, depth, and height, the V.E. is a statement piece that commands attention in any room.

Interacting with the Vector Equilibrium is a delightful experience. Its aesthetic appeal and playful nature allow users to shape and modulate the lighting according to their preferences. The counterbalance vase can be moved to achieve the desired shape, with the exact quantity of water ensuring perfect equilibrium. The lighting itself is packaged in a flat four-fold fractal, or alternatively, in a surprising and convenient pyramidal box.

Brevers Nicolas began his research for the Vector Equilibrium by studying the cuboctahedron, also known as the Vector Equilibrium, as conceptualized by Richard Buckminster Fuller in 1940. The design incorporates eight triangles and six squares, which provide structural flexibility and balance. The use of lasercut PMMA triangles and flexible connections allows for torsion tolerance and adaptability. The spherical glass vase counterbalance is carefully weighed to the nearest gram, further enhancing the design's equilibrium.

Overcoming creative and technical challenges, Brevers Nicolas found the optimal connections for the triangles, utilizing twisted steel cables fixed by brass crimping ferrules. Additionally, determining the precise weight for the counterbalance was a meticulous process, ultimately leading to the choice of a glass vase that can be filled with water to achieve the perfect equilibrium. As a young designer, Brevers Nicolas utilized fablabs equipped with the latest technologies to bring his vision to life.

The Vector Equilibrium is not only a visually stunning lighting design but also a recipient of the prestigious A' Design Award in 2016. This accolade recognizes the V.E. as a well-designed, practical, and innovative creation that meets professional and industrial requirements. With its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, the Vector Equilibrium contributes to a better world by providing fulfillment and positive feelings.
