The First Table: A Bold and Functional Statement Piece

Inspired by Truss Structures in Engineering

The First Table, designed by Almost, is a unique and visually captivating piece of furniture. Inspired by truss structures in engineering, this table combines bold design with functionality, making it a statement piece with a distinct identity.

The First Table draws inspiration from the light and dependable construction of truss structures. By incorporating this approach typically used in civil engineering, Almost has created a table that not only stands out visually but also offers a lot of freedom in the design process. It is a testament to the designer's ability to experiment and push the boundaries of traditional design.

What sets the First Table apart is its seemingly complex construction, which is actually very easy and logical to assemble. Made out of CNC cut plywood segments, the table's interlacing elements create a visually intriguing silhouette. The use of plywood not only adds to its unique aesthetic but also ensures durability and strength.

The design process for the First Table began with a 3D image of a tree-like structure. Through simplification and careful consideration, Almost determined that CNC cut plywood elements and simple joints were the best means to achieve the desired design. The interlacing of these elements adds complexity to the structure, resulting in a visually captivating piece.

With dimensions of 170/85/73cm, the First Table is a functional and practical piece of furniture. It is transported in a flat-pack form, making it easy to assemble without requiring any technical knowledge. The table's design minimizes the use of fixings, such as screws and nuts, further enhancing its simplicity and ease of use.

The First Table project took approximately six months to complete, from initial drawings and models to the final prototype. The entire process took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, where Almost's design team meticulously researched tree structures, truss engineering, and CNC cutting techniques to ensure the design's success.

Recognized for its outstanding expertise and innovation, the First Table was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2016. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the table's strong technical characteristics, splendid artistic skill, and remarkable level of excellence. It is a true representation of Almost's design principles and goals.

The First Table is a testament to Almost's commitment to thoughtful, affordable, exciting, and long-lasting design. It showcases the designer's ability to achieve interesting and exciting results using simple design solutions. With its complex and intriguing silhouette, the First Table is sure to make a statement in any space.
