Perfect Lighting: The Art of Capturing AMG Mercedes Benz

Photographer Matteo Mescalchin's Award-Winning Approach to Automotive Photography

Driven by an endless curiosity in experimenting with lighting as a creative tool, Photographer Matteo Mescalchin has developed a unique approach to automotive photography. His project, "Perfect Lighting for AMG Mercedes Benz," showcases his ability to create engaging images under challenging conditions, emphasizing luxury details and functional features of the cars.

Mescalchin's project is an exploration of the power of light and framing in photography. Despite working with time restrictions and in confined, non-studio-like locations, he managed to produce over 30 high-quality images in just two days. Each car was shot in an average of 45 minutes, a testament to Mescalchin's well-organized workflow and refined teamwork skills.

The photographs were taken using a Hasselblad digital medium format camera, combining available light with strobes. Mescalchin applied the theory and techniques of light occlusion, shaping his lights accurately with different soft light control tools, including egg crates and self-made modifiers. This meticulous approach to lighting design is what sets his work apart.

Despite challenges such as tight spaces, limited time, and strong light spills from the window glass on location, Mescalchin was able to overcome these obstacles with his extensive experience in lighting and photography. His technical equipment played a crucial role in this process, allowing him to control the lighting conditions effectively.

The project aimed to create engaging photographs of selected AMG Mercedes Benz models, emphasizing the car's design, aesthetics, and functional features. Mescalchin's refined lighting skills, combined with high-end professional tools, were essential assets for the final outcome. The result was a collection of eye-catching images that not only captured the essence of the cars but also reflected the photographer's unique style and approach.

This project earned Mescalchin the Golden A' Photography and Photo Manipulation Design Award in 2016. The award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. It is a testament to Mescalchin's extraordinary excellence and his significant impact on the world of photography.
