Libertango: A Dance of Design and Innovation

Seungmo Lim's Boutique Hotel Room Design Inspired by Tango

Seungmo Lim, a renowned designer, has created a unique room in a boutique hotel in Seoul, South Korea. The design, named 'Libertango', is inspired by the passionate dance of tango, a bullfighter's anticipation, and the energy of a black bull. This article explores the design's unique properties, realization technology, and the interaction it offers to its users.

Libertango is a room in a boutique hotel located in Gangnam, Seoul. The design is inspired by the seductive fluttering of a red dress wrapped around a black tango dancer's tuxedo, a bullfighter's golden Traje De Luces (Suit of Light), and a black bull staring at a Muelta (red fabric hanging on a stick used by a bullfighter). The room reflects the passion and tension of a moment condensed with strong colors and energy.

The room's unique properties lie in its innovative design. Seungmo Lim created a line of movement that penetrates the entire room, changing the perspective of the view. The fusion and division of colors and shapes demonstrate the dynamic diversity of space. The design is out of the box, providing a unique experience for the guests.

The realization technology used in the design includes stainless steel for the entry tunnel, Barrisol for the entry tunnel, artificial marble, porcelain tile, red leather, paint, glass, golden fabric curtain, and mirror. The room measures 41.36 square meters (4.7m x 8.8m), providing ample space for guests to enjoy the design's unique features.

The design interaction is another unique feature of Libertango. The twisted stainless wall that guests confront after opening the door from the corridor and the white lighting ceiling create a neutral zone. This spatial device makes it difficult to figure out its context and looks like it shuts off time and space. The strong directional property of diagonal lines that dominate the space, the space that imposes order for each area against such directional property, and the tremor of space generated by formative language as well as color and material property, all contribute to the room's unique interaction.

The project began in 2014 and was completed in 2015. The design was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.

In conclusion, Seungmo Lim's Libertango is a unique room design in a boutique hotel in Seoul that offers a unique experience to its guests. Inspired by the passionate dance of tango, a bullfighter's anticipation, and the energy of a black bull, the design reflects the passion and tension of a moment condensed with strong colors and energy. The design's unique properties, realization technology, and the interaction it offers to its users make it a worthy recipient of the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award.
