The inspiration behind the Motion H Dosa Making Machine came from the desire to develop a dosa maker that could replicate the taste and texture of handmade dosas. The team at Universal Designovation Lab LLP recognized the psychological satisfaction people derive from the belief that handmade dosas are superior to those made by machines. They aimed to create a machine that could mimic the motions of the manual dosa-making process while providing an enhanced user experience.
What sets the Motion H Dosa Making Machine apart is its ability to replicate the hand motions involved in the dosa-making process. The internal mechanisms of the machine accurately mimic the motions of a human hand, resulting in dosas that have the same shape, texture, and taste as those made by hand. Additionally, the machine features a 7" TFT color HMI display with enhanced UX and UI, allowing users to control various parameters such as dosa type, size, thickness, amount of oil, water and batter, and even the type of batter used.
The Motion H Dosa Making Machine is made using sheet metal forming and standard fabrication processes. The main body is constructed from food-grade stainless steel and mild steel sheets, with L-section, C-section, and pipe sections. The motion mechanism of the machine is controlled by custom-made electronics and drives, which receive input from the HMI. The modular design of the machine ensures easy maintenance and transportation.
With dimensions of 700mm x 450mm x 300mm and weighing 80kg, the Motion H Dosa Making Machine is compact and lightweight. Its 7" TFT color HMI display with enhanced UX and UI allows users to easily control the dosa-making process, adjusting parameters to achieve the desired dosa type, size, thickness, and taste. The machine offers a cost-effective solution for dosa making, with its user-friendly interface and empathic design.
The Motion H Dosa Making Machine is the result of a year-long project undertaken by Universal Designovation Lab LLP and Gravity Innovation Lab. Extensive research went into understanding the dosa-making process and developing a mechanism that could replicate the hand motions involved. The team overcame creative, technical, and research challenges to create a machine that not only mimics the handmade dosa process but also offers an international look and feel.
The Motion H Dosa Making Machine has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Home Appliances Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is given to designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The Motion H Dosa Making Machine stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
